18-year-old Jesse Hamric from Colorado, identified as the person who died at Smith Mountain Lake on Thursday, was a 2024 Steamboat Springs High School graduate and the quarterback of his high school football team. His parents, Jay and Heidi Hamric, are principal and teacher at an elementary school in Steamboat Springs, respectively. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity on Friday.
