Tom Elliott, MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, was one of 19 new peers announced on Thursday. The UUP leader expressed his "total shock" at receiving the peerage, and said he looks at it more as an award for the community rather than himself. He currently holds the Fermanagh South Tyrone Westminster seat for the UUP and is based in Stormont. Elliott was first elected as an MLA in 2003.
