UCL study finds "cool roofs" most effective in reducing air temperatures during heatwaves in cities like London.
A study led by UCL researchers found that painting roofs white or using reflective coatings is the most effective way to reduce air temperatures in cities, such as London, during heatwaves. These "cool roofs" outperformed green roofs, trees, and solar panels in simulated climate conditions. If widely adopted, cool roofs could reduce outdoor temperatures in London by up to 1.2°C.
