450 people affected by Salmonella linked to untreated water used by Florida-based cucumber grower, Bedner Growers Inc., with recalled crates by Fresh Start Produce Sales.
A salmonella outbreak in the US that affected nearly 450 people has been linked to untreated water used by Florida-based cucumber grower, Bedner Growers Inc. The salmonella strain found in the untreated canal water matched the strain causing illnesses in over 30 states and Washington, D.C. Bedner Growers supplied Fresh Start Produce Sales, which recalled crates of cucumbers in late May. The investigation is ongoing, but there is no risk to the public as Bedner Growers' cucumber growing and harvesting season is over and there's no product left on the market.
