The Liberal Democrats plan to double funding for Bereavement Support Payments to £440m a year by 2028/29 to help families cope with the financial impact of losing a partner. Leader Sir Ed Davey, who lost both his parents at a young age, calls the current provisions "heartless and short-sighted". The party aims to extend the length of time bereaved families receive monthly payments, currently 18 months of up to £350.
