A judge approved a $9.5-million settlement in a class action lawsuit accusing the Calgary Stampede of allowing a performance school staffer, Philip Heerema, to sexually abuse young boys. Heerema received a 10-year prison sentence in 2018, after pleading guilty to charges including sexual assault, sexual exploitation, child pornography, and luring. The settlement relates to Heerema's abuse of six boys between 2005 and 2014, and in 1992.
