Gay Iraqi refugee Zhya Aramiy celebrates first Pride in Canada in Toronto's Gay Village.
Zhya Aramiy, a gay refugee from Iraq, celebrated his first Pride in Canada after relocating to Toronto. In Turkey and Iraq, Aramiy had to hide his Pride flags, but upon arriving in Canada, he felt at home seeing rainbow flags in Toronto's Church and Wellesley neighborhood, known as the city's Gay Village. This June, many LGBTQ+ newcomers to Canada are celebrating their first Pride in Toronto.
