Researchers at Cornell University date the Kyrenia shipwreck, discovered in Cyprus, to 286-272 BCE through almond samples, wood samples, and radiocarbon dating.
Researchers at Cornell University have used a combination of almond samples, newly cleaned wood samples, and radiocarbon dating to confirm the date of the famous Hellenistic-era Kyrenia shipwreck, discovered off the north coast of Cyprus in the 1960s. The most probable timeline of the Kyrenia's sinking is now estimated to be between 296-271 BCE, with a strong likelihood it occurred between 286-272 BCE. This has provided valuable insights into ancient ship technology and maritime trade over the past six decades.
