Researchers from Queensland's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) and Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) found deep banding phosphorus (P) fertiliser can increase crop yields by over 10% compared to traditional surface applications in southern and central Queensland trials. The long-term research aims to determine the optimal depth of application for maximum nutrition and reduced nutrient leeching, with long-term residual benefits also assessed. This research is part of a multi-million dollar investment by GRDC into fertiliser efficiency and understanding phosphorus fertiliser use.
