168 financial firm employees in South Korea embezzled approximately 180 billion won ($122.21m) over the past six years, with less than 10% recovered. The amount stolen rose from 5.67bn won in 2018 to 82.76bn won in 2022 before falling slightly to 64.26bn won last year. The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) announced measures to strengthen internal control in 2022, but critics argue that they are insufficient to prevent further incidents.
