Cross-border vehicle hijacker and smuggler Sipho "Smirnoff" Mhlanga was sentenced to 53 years in prison for murder, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping. Mhlanga was linked to a syndicate smuggling hijacked vehicles from South Africa to Mozambique. A national task team has arrested 276 suspects and recovered 150 stolen or hijacked vehicles since its deployment in February 2023.
