India rejects UN top human rights official's comment on foreign influence laws, stating that principles of transparency and accountability cannot be applied selectively. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk's Global Update mentioned India among over 50 countries considering or adopting transparency or foreign influence laws, which he said risk chilling effects on civic space. India's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Arindam Bagchi, expressed disagreement.
