Kolkata Metro introduces India's first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for passenger safety and energy efficiency.

Kolkata Metro introduces India's first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to ensure passenger safety and improve energy consumption during power outages. The system, to be completed by year-end, will allow trains to move at 30 km/hr in case of sudden power loss, using inverters and Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries. The BESS lifespan is 14 years and has better energy efficiency and reduced health and fire hazards.
