Georgetown County has begun construction on a new $65 million detention center, replacing the 28-year-old current facility. The 85,000 sq ft new complex will also house the coroner's office and a building for the sheriff's re-entry program, aiming to improve community needs and provide better support for inmates. The new facility is expected to open in February 2027.
