2009's rescinded Made in the USA beef labeling policy (COOL) is reintroduced, facing potential tariffs from Canada and Mexico.
Made in the USA beef policy, known as COOL (Country of Origin Labeling), is quietly reintroduced despite potential tariffs from Mexico and Canada. The labeling was first proposed by Senator Jon Tester in 2007 and made law in 2009, but was later rescinded due to complaints from Canada and Mexico to the World Trade Organization and subsequent tariffs imposed on US products. The WTO granted Canada and Mexico permission to impose these tariffs in 2015.
