6-centimeter-wide fossil of extinct saber-toothed cat found at Texas coast expands known geographic range.
6-centimeter-wide, unassuming fossil discovered at Texas coast reveals the existence of a large, extinct saber-toothed cat, expanding its known geographic footprint. The fossil, found by a UT Austin student, appears as a nondescript rock with exposed teeth and was submerged in the Gulf of Mexico for thousands of years before washing ashore. The research was published in the May issue of The Anatomical Record.
