300+ politicians, health experts, and celebrities called on US pharmaceutical giant Gilead to allow cheap, generic versions of a promising new HIV drug, Lenacapavir, to be produced and distributed to people in developing countries. The drug, which only needs to be injected twice a year, could be a "real game-changer" in the fight against HIV. The signatories urged Gilead to license the drug on the United Nations-backed Medicines Patent Pool, allowing cheaper generic versions to be manufactured.
