NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană reaffirmed the value of Mauritania's partnership during a meeting with Defence Minister Hanana Ould Sidi on 28 May 2024. Since joining NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue partnership forum in 1995, the alliance and Mauritania have made progress in areas such as special operations forces, maritime security intelligence, and military education. NATO is determined to strengthen Mauritania's forces in the fight against terrorism.
