Coal miners, represented by the United Mine Workers of America, are urging Congress to improve black lung protections and benefits. Cecil Roberts, UMWA President, testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety. Many critics argue that certain miners aren't receiving the help they should from the Black Lung Benefits Act of 1976, which provides compensation and medical coverage for miners who develop black lung disease.
