A former coal miner, Craig Keogh, has become the first Australian to win a black lung case at trial, receiving a record $3.2m payout. Keogh developed pneumoconiosis due to negligence at the mines in NSW and Queensland, where the Dust Diseases Tribunal found he was exposed to excessive coal dust. The four companies involved - Downer Mining, CPB Contractors, and Campbell Mining Services - have been held accountable for failing in their duty of care.
