flag Researchers at City of Hope discovered new DNA methylation biomarkers predicting kidney failure risk in type 1 diabetes patients.

Researchers at City of Hope discovered new biomarkers, involving DNA methylation activity, to predict kidney failure risk in type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients. The team conducted the first epigenome-wide association analysis in patients with diabetic kidney disease, identifying 17 CpGs associated with kidney failure risk, independent of major clinical risk factors. These biomarkers outperformed a clinical model at identifying individuals with T1D who risked progressing to end-stage kidney disease.
