23-year-old Auckland mum, whose name is suppressed, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of her infant son at Starship Hospital. She was initially charged with murder in January last year. The baby suffered a fatal brain injury at five weeks old. The sentencing date is set for July. If found guilty of murder, she would likely have faced a life sentence with a minimum term of imprisonment of at least 10 years.
