140,000+ rural Tibetans relocated under coercion since 2016 in China, per HRW report.

China has used "extreme pressure" to relocate over 140,000 rural Tibetans from 500 villages since 2016, according to a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report. The relocations, which are officially claimed to improve employment and income and protect the environment, are coercive and violate international law, states the 70-page HRW report titled "Educate the Masses to Change Their Minds: China's Coercive Relocation of Rural Tibetans". Over 709,000 people or 76% of the relocations occurred since 2016.
