Researchers at NIH discovered a rare inherited disorder, BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome, linked to benign nail abnormalities. The condition, caused by BAP1 gene mutations, increases cancer risk in skin, eyes, kidneys, and mesothelium tissue. Patients with multiple onychopapillomas (nail tumors) are more likely to have this syndrome, potentially aiding in early detection and treatment.
