Dubuque City Council seeks approval for a $3M grant to improve railway safety at at-grade intersections and gain a quiet-zone designation, reducing train horns. The US Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration grant application is due on May 28. Increased train traffic from the merger of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroads is expected to rise from 9 to 18 trains daily.
