1,484 Amazon warehouse workers surveyed in 42 states reveal 53% food insecurity and 48% housing insecurity despite $15 minimum wage.
A study from the University of Illinois Chicago's Center for Urban Economic Development reveals that despite raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour five years ago, half of Amazon's warehouse workers still struggle to afford food and housing. The research surveyed 1,484 workers in 42 states and found that 53% experienced food insecurity in the last three months, while 48% faced housing insecurity. The study also showed that workers who took unpaid time off after injuries were more likely to report financial difficulties.
