Japanese firm Sumitomo Electric begins construction on the UK's first subsea cable factory in Scotland, investing £350m ($439m). The factory, located in the Port of Nigg, will produce high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables, crucial for transmitting electricity from wind farms and other nations to support the country's climate goals. The factory will create 150 highly skilled jobs and produce cables for the Shetland 2 power link, part of National Grid's £58bn plan for grid upgrades beyond 2030.
