Ofgem approves £3.4bn plan for a 500km electricity cable linking Scotland and England, scheduled for completion in 2029, aiming to connect wind farms in Scotland to towns and cities in England by 2029. The cable, part of efforts to ensure the connection of wind farms to energy-consuming areas, aims to reduce the shutdown time for wind farms even when they have the capacity to produce. If all 26 "critical" projects are built, Ofgem expects savings to consumers of £2.1bn.
