51-year-old cyclist Michael Gronow died of a suspected cardiac arrest during the 100-mile Carten100 charity bike ride from Cardiff to Tenby, marking the 20th anniversary of the event. Gronow fell ill after leaving Johnstown in Carmarthenshire, and despite emergency services arriving quickly, they were unable to save him. The event, which attracts around 1,800 cyclists, offered its condolences to Gronow's family.
