A car-free Brazilian town on an Amazonian island could offer lessons for achieving net-zero emissions. Since 2002, Afuá, a town of 38,000 people on the Amazon River, has been motor vehicle-free, not due to environmental concerns, but because it's built on stilts and sits above flood-prone areas. Mayor Odimar Wanderley Salomão is making strides towards reducing emissions and has a good head start.
