US Supreme Court upholds copyright claim for man who claimed to have copyrighted music used in Flo Rida's "In the Ayer" in 2008.
The US Supreme Court ruled in favor of a man who claimed he had copyrighted music decades ago, used in a 2008 single by rapper Flo Rida. The 6-3 decision affirmed a lower court's decision, allowing the copyright claim to proceed despite a three-year statute of limitations in copyright law. Sherman Nealy sued Warner Chappell Music and Artist Publishing Group in 2018, arguing that they took an invalid license to "Jam the Box" and used its elements in Flo Rida's "In the Ayer."
