New study finds that chimpanzees continually learn and improve tool-using skills throughout adulthood, similar to humans.
New research shows that chimpanzees, like humans, continue to learn and improve their tool-using skills throughout adulthood. The study, published in PLOS Biology, observed 70 wild chimps at Taï National Park, Ivory Coast, using sticks to retrieve food. The research suggests that the ability to learn throughout life may be a key factor in the evolution of complex and varied tool use in both chimpanzees and humans.
