A new study published in Current Biology reveals that male bonobos are more frequently aggressive than male chimpanzees within their own communities, despite bonobos' reputation as the 'make love not war' ape. Both species exhibit different ways of using aggression for specific reasons. The research is the first to directly compare the species' behaviour using the same field methods and focuses on male aggression, which is often tied to reproduction.
