The NSW child protection service crisis deepens as new data reveals the Hunter region has a high rate of open workers' compensation claims. Out of 145 caseworkers with open claims across NSW, 23 are from the Hunter Central Coast. This, combined with the number of frontline workers taking unplanned sick leave, results in some offices operating with up to a quarter of their workforce absent. The Public Service Association (PSA) has expressed concern over the situation.
