Researchers create panoramic view of human placenta infection pathways, revealing potential drug targets for malaria, toxoplasmosis, and listeria.
Researchers have created the first panoramic view of infection pathways in the human placenta, revealing potential drug targets to develop pregnancy-safe therapies for malaria, toxoplasmosis, and listeria. Using novel 'mini placenta' models, the team from the Wellcome Sanger Institute and University of Cambridge mapped the placental response to infections during early development. The study, published in Cell Systems, suggests secondary inflammation may cause pregnancy complications.
