Study finds placental issues linked to heart defects in embryos, suggests potential treatment.

Researchers at Nanjing University found that issues with placental growth can lead to congenital heart defects in developing embryos. They focused on a protein called SLC25A1, which, when reduced, affects placental development but not the heart directly. Administering another protein, PSG1, to pregnant mice improved placental and heart defects, suggesting a potential new treatment for preventing heart defects in fetuses with placental problems.
