Canada begins construction of LGBTQ2S+ national monument "Thunderhead" in Ottawa, funded by a class action lawsuit.
Construction began on Canada's LGBTQ2S+ national monument, named "Thunderhead," in Ottawa, marking historic discrimination against the community by the federal government from the 1950s to mid-1990s. Funded by the LGBT Purge Fund from a class action lawsuit, the monument, located near the Ottawa River, will feature a sacred fire site and a column split by a thunderhead cloud. Indigenous elders contributed to the monument's design.
