A new study of 3,000 US counties links air pollution with increased risk of heart disease death in under-65-year-olds, due to stress and depression. This research, presented at ESC Preventive Cardiology 2024, reveals that poor mental health and air pollution may have a joint impact on cardiovascular disease mortality. The World Health Organization estimates that air pollution caused 4.2 million premature deaths in 2019.
