Albany police officer ambushed during traffic stop, shot in leg, kills suspect in return fire.
An Albany police officer was ambushed by a driver during an attempted traffic stop, resulting in the officer being shot in the leg. The suspect then fired at the officer, who returned fire, killing the man. The officer was hospitalized and is alert and conscious. Police Chief Eric Hawkins described the incident as one of an officer's worst nightmares, where they are ambushed while performing routine duties.
