2-million Swedish women study links major pregnancy complications to increased mortality risk for over four decades.
A study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that women experiencing pregnancy complications, like gestational diabetes or preeclampsia, face a higher risk of early death for over four decades after giving birth. The study of 2 million Swedish women discovered that all five major pregnancy complications were independently linked to a higher mortality risk later in life. Women with multiple complications had further increased risks. The increased mortality was linked to multiple causes of death, such as heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disorders, and cancer.
