Ontario study in JAMA Network Open finds higher risk of premature death for women with teen pregnancies, especially before age 16.
According to an Ontario study published in JAMA Network Open, women who were pregnant as teenagers have a higher risk of dying before age 31 compared to those with no teen pregnancies. The risk is particularly pronounced for those who were pregnant before age 16. The study, which analyzed anonymized health data of all residents in Ontario between April 1991 and March 2021, reveals that teen pregnancies may be connected to a higher risk of premature death. The study calls for more programs to support vulnerable youth and their children.
