BBC splits news ops in India, six ex-staff launch independent, Indian-owned Collective Newsroom.
The BBC has split its news operations in India into two to meet regulatory requirements and to adhere to India's foreign direct investment laws, which cap foreign funding for digital news companies at 26%. As a result, six former BBC staff have launched Collective Newsroom, an independent, Indian-owned media company. The Collective Newsroom will provide content for the BBC's six Indian language services, as well as the BBC News India YouTube channel, and produce other English content.
