The UK's International Development Committee launches an inquiry into the future funding of BBC World Service.

The UK's International Development Committee has launched an inquiry into the future funding of the BBC World Service. The service, primarily funded by the UK licence fee, also receives £104.4m from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The inquiry will focus on the BBC's influence as a soft power and examine if increased government support is necessary. Under the current funding agreement, the BBC World Service has agreed not to close any language services until 2025.
