Nigeria's National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS), is introducing a National ID card with payment functionality for social and financial services. The card, powered by AfriGO, aims to address the demand for physical identification, facilitate financial inclusion for disenfranchised Nigerians, empower citizens, and encourage increased participation in nation-building. The card adheres to International Civil Aviation Organization standards and can be used as a debit or prepaid card, linking to bank accounts of the cardholder's choice.
