Colchester Hospital staff protest against ESNEFT's plan to outsource cleaners, porters, and caterers, risking service quality and creating a two-tier workforce.
Colchester Hospital staff members are protesting against the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust's (ESNEFT) decision to outsource cleaners, porters, and caterers roles, instead of directly employing them. The move comes ahead of Ipswich Hospital's contract with private company OCS ending in April 2025. UNISON warns that further outsourcing will impact service quality and create a two-tier workforce with new hires paid less and subject to worse conditions than their NHS colleagues. The union claims that ESNEFT plans to put all services from both hospitals out to a single tender over the next 12 months.
