Irish healthcare workers vote for industrial action over severe staffing shortages.

Thousands of Irish healthcare workers, including nurses and midwives, have voted overwhelmingly in favor of industrial action over staffing shortages. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), Fórsa, and Unite unions claim that over 2,000 nursing and midwifery posts were left unfilled by the end of 2023, putting patient safety at risk. The unions argue that recruitment restrictions and the suppression of posts by the Health Service Executive (HSE) are causing immense strain on services. INMO President Caroline Gourley emphasized the need for a properly staffed health service and called for a united approach with other unions to address these issues.
