The Supreme Court of India consolidates 27 petitions to clarify if online gaming falls under betting/gambling under GST.

The Supreme Court of India has consolidated 27 pending petitions from 11 high courts challenging the 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed on online gaming companies. The top court will hear the consolidated case, scheduled for the last week of April, to provide a definitive ruling on whether online gaming falls under the ambit of betting and gambling. The consolidation aims to end the tax overhang on the online gaming sector and provide clarity on whether these games are considered games of skill or chance.
