The Commerce Commission of New Zealand has raised concerns over Foodstuffs' proposed merger of its North Island and South Island cooperatives, stating they are not currently satisfied that the merger would not substantially lessen competition in the $25bn grocery market. A decision date is set for May 31. The Commission is now seeking submissions from Foodstuffs, other interested parties, and stakeholders to address the raised issues.
