Germany’s defense minister overhauls the military command as he seeks ‘war-capable’ armed forces.

Germany's Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, announced a military overhaul including a single "operational military command" and expanding the existing "cyber and information" department as a fourth arm of the military. This follows Chancellor Olaf Scholz's increase in military spending after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The aim is to make Germany's armed forces "war-capable" and reach NATO's 2% spending target with a €100 billion special fund. The new structure aims to eliminate duplicate structures, streamline operations, and focus on national and alliance defence capabilities.
