28-year-old Joseph Schooling, Singapore's first and only Olympic gold medalist in swimming, announced his retirement from competitive swimming on April 2. Schooling, who famously defeated Michael Phelps in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, plans to explore new passions and challenges in his post-swimming career. The swimmer, who has multiple accolades and historic achievements in his career, intends to work in the "health and wellness, tech, and sustainability" sectors and play more golf.
